Over the last twenty years, Beyster Institute has managed projects on a variety of international development issues in the following countries:

Below is a sampling of some of our international assignments:

Africa
Developed recommendations for the government of South Africa for implementing employee stock ownership plans in the context of restructuring state-owned enterprises.

Managed a 2-year project to promote the development of employee stock ownership plans to facilitate privatization and economic development in Zimbabwe. Helped design the first successful ESOP privatization transaction in Zimbabwe.

The Americas
Provided entrepreneurship training for rural business owners in Bolivia through USAID's Rural Competitiveness Activity. This program was designed to increase sales and exports and create jobs and wealth in rural communities. Bolivian entrepreneurs assisted in determining the participants' needs. Customized entrepreneurship training was presented in the two rural corridors between Bolivia's three major cities of La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz.

Conducted a pre-feasibility study for a high technology company in Argentina to explore the viability of structuring an employee buyout to facilitate partial privatization of the company from the provincial government of Rio Negro.

Assisted with the design of a strategy to implement an employee stock purchase program that was successfully implemented for a U.S.-Venezeulan joint venture company. Separately, designed a program for incorporating employee ownership plans in up to twenty new companies on on behalf of a state-owned Venezuelan company.

Designed and communicated a stock options program for a U.S. subsidiary of a Canadian-based information technology company.

Conducted a pre-feasibility assessment and produced a French-language report with recommendations for how employees could obtain an ownership stake in the privatization of Haiti's state-owned telecommunications company.

Europe and Eurasia
Hosted over a dozen separate US-based 2-week training programs for groups of 15-25 Russian enterprise managers, NGO executives, local government officials and business training center directors on topics including SME Infrastructure, Small Business Development, Management and Entrepreneurship, NGO Resource Mobilization, Small Business Financing and Corporate Restructuring.

Assisted with the Business and Economics Education Project (B&EE) in Kazakhstan. Evaluated entrepreneurship course instructor’s and curriculum at two Pilot Entrepreneur Education and Support Centers that serve as models for the Central Asian Region.

Led a conference with Polish government ministers to develop strategies to promote the use of employee ownership to facilitate privatization and economic development potential of over 60 government research and technology institutes.

Conducted training programs in Ukraine and in the U.S. for leading government officials and industry representatives of Ukraine's Kharkiv region on strategies for promoting investment in the region and for fostering the growth of small and medium enterprises.

Conducted training programs for the development of professional associations and business support organizations in Georgia and developed a program to “Accelerate Entrepreneurship in Georgia.”  As part of this project we implemented an Entrepreneurial Training Needs Assessment identify the needs, skills and activities that are most important to entrepreneurs building companies in Georgia.

Middle East and North Africa
Managed MENA Business Women's Summit in Tunis, Tunisia in 2005 and in Abu Dhabi, UAE in 2006. These conferences were attended by businesswomen from the MENA region, government representatives and executives from the United States.

Consulted with representatives of Jordan's information technology sector on the potential use of employee ownership incentives to facilitate the ability of Jordanian companies to attract, retain and motivate their employees. Developed recommedataions for ESOPs that were ultimately incorporated into Jordanian law.

Developed a strategy for implementing a phantom stock incentive compensation plan for a private Saudi Arabian information technology and internet services company.

Developed recommendations to facilitate the use of Employee Shareholder Associations (ESAs) in privatization transactions in Egypt under a subcontract to PricewaterhouseCoopers on the USAID "Privatization Implementation Project."

Completed survey work in Egypt focusing on the investment and learning needs of high-potential entrepreneurs in the ICT sector.

South and Central Asia
Managed a professional development program for South Asian University faculty from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. We organized a 12-day clinic in December 2005 in San Diego California followed by a regional program for a larger group in early 2006 at the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India in Ahmedabad.
