Outside the United States, employee ownership programs are frequently implemented in the context of privatizing state-owned enterprises. The effectiveness of laws and regulations governing the implementation of these programs varies greatly from country to country. In addition to providing advisory services on the use of employee ownership in specific transactions, we have helped governments structure employee ownership laws and regulations to facilitate their privatization programs. Assignments have included work for the governments of South Africa, Russia, and Egypt, as well as for USAID and other clients.
Though the circumstances change with the varying legal and cultural traditions of countries, the success of employee ownership initiatives in variety of countries demonstrates that careful attention to the design and structure of employee ownership programs can ensure that they serve the long-term interests of employee-shareholders in the operation of successful enterprises.
