Foundation for Enterprise Development

The Foundation for Enterprise Development (FED) was established in La Jolla, The Foundation for Enterprise Development (FED) was established in La Jolla, California in 1986 by Dr. J. Robert Beyster with a broad charter to help develop successful entrepreneurial enterprises in the U.S. and around the world. To accomplish this, FED has focused on advancing entrepreneurship and employee ownership through its work with entrepreneurs, executives, government agencies and educators in over 40 countries.

In 2002, FED launched the Beyster Institute to further focus on training, education and consulting in employee ownership and entrepreneurship. In 2004 the Beyster Institute became part of the Rady School of Management University of California San Diego.

As a private foundation the FED is celebrating 20 years of successfully assisting businesses, individuals and governments in using innovation, employee ownership and entrepreneurship to achieve their goals. FED looks forward to helping the promotion and research associated with the practices and benefits of employee ownership and entrepreneurship, and to providing technical and business support to entrepreneurs advancing important scientific and technological innovations.

It was Dr. Beyster’s dedication to using science and technology to solve problems of national and global importance and sharing the wealth with those who help build a company that led to the tremendous success of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), the company he founded and led for 36 years. His commercial success and his philanthropic ideals have created an impressive model that the FED will seek to disseminate through its initiatives and programs.
